Structure of Government
The City is governed by a seven member City Council, and Mayor, all of whom are elected to their positions for a term of four years.
The authority of City government is limited only to those specific duties which are delegated by Ohio law. Unlike townships, cities have the authority to pass ordinances which are law.
Even though New Franklin is a city, many of the services commonly associated with local government are under the legal jurisdiction of the County and State government. These include animal control, sewers, environmental protection and public health.
